ABOUT THE BURSARY PROVIDER – RAILWAY SAFETY REGULATOR

The Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) was established by the National Railway Safety Regulator Act (Act 16 of 2002) and operates as an agency of the South African government. The RSR's primary responsibility is to regulate the safety of rail operations conducted by railway operators across South Africa and neighbouring states whose rail systems enter the country.

The organization's main priority is to ensure the safety of passengers, communities, and all stakeholders at all times. The RSR is based in Bruma, Johannesburg, with an office located in Cape Town’s Central Business District.

ABOUT THE RAILWAY SAFETY REGULATOR BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

The Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme for the 2025 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded for undergraduate studies in the following fields:

  • Civil Engineering

  • Electrical Engineering

  • Financial Management

  • Human Resources Management

  • Information Technology

  • Internal Audit

  • Law

  • Mechanical Engineering

  • Media and Communication

  • Risk Management

  • Supply Chain Management

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. If you do not receive any feedback, please consider your application unsuccessful.

Successful candidates will be required to sign a Bursary Agreement.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE RSR BURSARY

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements before applying (failure to meet all requirements will result in disqualification):

  • You must be a South African citizen.

  • You must be currently in Matric (in 2024) or have completed Matric.

  • You must be between 15 and 35 years old.

  • You must be studying or intending to study full-time towards an undergraduate qualification in one of the listed fields.

  • You must be studying or have been accepted to study at a recognized and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa (including TVET Colleges, Universities of Technology, and both private and public universities).

  • If entering your 1st year in 2025, you must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% in your Grade 11 final or Matric mid-term results.

  • If already studying, you must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% in your current year of study.

  • You must not be receiving any other financial sponsorship or bursary from another organization or institution.

 

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE RSR BURSARY

Submit clear copies of the following required documents along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is mandatory – failure to submit any items may result in your application being disqualified):

  • Certified copy of your ID document

  • Certified copy of your latest Matric results, if currently in Matric

  • Certified copy of your Matric certificate, if you have completed Matric

  • Certified copy of your full academic record, including your most recent results/transcripts, if you are currently studying

  • Certified copy of proof of tertiary registration/admission

  • Quotation of your academic year's tuition fees

  • A motivational letter supporting your application, explaining why you should be awarded the bursary
