NSFAS Bursary & Student Loan Guide

Who Qualifies?

  1. Bursary: South African citizens/permanent residents with a household income ≤ R350 000 (≤ R600 000 if living with a disability).
  2. Loan: South African citizens/permanent residents with a household income between R350 001 – R600 000.

What Does NSFAS Cover?

Bursary Funding Includes:
✔ Registration fees
✔ Tuition fees & learning materials
✔ Living allowance
✔ Personal care allowance
✔ Transport or Accommodation

Student Loan Covers:
✔ Tuition fees & learning materials
✔ Transport or Accommodation
✔ Accommodation
(Note: No living or personal allowances provided under the loan.)

Who Cannot Apply?

✘ Students fully funded by other bursaries
✘ Students applying for a second undergrad or certificate qualification
✘ Students at private institutions
✘ Non-DHET/SAQA accredited qualifications

How to Apply (Quick Steps)

  1. Visit: www.nsfas.org.za
  2. Create a myNSFAS profile
  3. Complete your application & upload documents
  4. Submit online

Track Your NSFAS Status

  1. Log in to myNSFAS
  2. Go to Track Funding Progress
  3. View updates: Application Submitted | Under Review | Approved | Rejected
  4. If rejected, submit an appeal with supporting documents
