ABOUT THE BURSARY PROVIDER – ABSIP
The Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (ABSIP) was established to address the underrepresentation of black professionals in the investment and securities sector and to contribute positively to the economy.
Founded in 1995, ABSIP has become a significant force in the transformation of the financial sector and is affiliated with the Black Business Council (BBC).
ABSIP’s membership includes both newcomers to the financial services industry and seasoned professionals. The organization represents various sub-sectors, such as Corporate Banking, Private Banking, Retail Banking, Investment Banking, Asset Management, Insurance, Employee Benefits, Corporate Finance, Stock Broking, Private Equity, Financial and Corporate Managerial Consulting, Treasury, and Development Finance Institutions (DFIs).
ABOUT THE ABSIP BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED
The ABSIP Bursary Fund is inviting applications for the STANLIB Bursary for the 2025 academic year.
In partnership with ABSIP, STANLIB is offering bursary funding to historically disadvantaged students for qualifications related to a career in Investment Management at selected universities.
Preference will be given to those studying towards a Bachelor of Business Science (BBusSc), Bachelor of Commerce (BCom), or Bachelor of Science (BSc) in the following fields:
Business Finance
Economics
Financial Analysis
Investment Management
Mathematics
Statistics
MORE ABOUT THE ABSIP BURSARY PROGRAMME – EXPENSES COVERED
The bursary will cover the following expenses: tuition fees, book allowance (for textbooks/course materials), laptop (based on financial need), accommodation (preferably on campus), and a stipend (based on financial need). Bursaries are renewable annually, provided the student maintains satisfactory academic performance and funds are available.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ABSIP BURSARY
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the ABSIP Bursary (failure to meet all criteria will result in the application being disqualified):
You must be a South African citizen.
You must come from a historically disadvantaged background.
You must be Black (as defined by the B-BBEE Act).
You must have completed Matric.
You must be studying or planning to study full-time for a qualification related to Investment Management.
You must be accepted or enrolled at one of the following universities:
University of Cape Town
University of Western Cape
Stellenbosch University
University of Johannesburg
University of Pretoria
University of Witwatersrand
Rhodes University
University of Free State
University of Fort Hare
University of Limpopo
University of KwaZulu-Natal
University of Zululand
University of Venda
Walter Sisulu University
Nelson Mandela University
North-West University
You must have a strong academic record.
You must have achieved at least a 75% average for core academic modules/subjects.
You must intend to pursue a career in the Investment field.
You must be in financial need.
You must NOT have permanent work experience (vacation work experience is acceptable).
You must NOT be a STANLIB employee or a relative of a STANLIB employee.
You should preferably demonstrate leadership qualities and have been involved in extramural activities (e.g., sports, debating, chess clubs, etc.).

Submit clear copies of the following required documents along with your online application (these documents are mandatory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):
Certified copy of your ID document
Academic Record/Transcripts on the institution's letterhead
Quote or fee statement from your University on the institution's letterhead
Motivational letter (1 page) explaining why you wish to study or are studying towards an Investment Management qualification (refer to our tips on writing a motivational letter for your bursary application)
Certified copies of your parents' or guardians' ID documents
Proof of income for your parents or guardians (latest 3 months' payslips – certified copies, or an affidavit if unemployed)
Bank statements for your parents or guardians for the past 3 months
