🎯 Purpose of the Role
The Artisan Production Grade A performs skilled trade-specific tasks (Painting, Bricklaying, Plumbing, Welding, or Electrical) across designated district cost centres and workshops, executing preventive maintenance, physical repairs, quality control, and structural refurbishment of government facilities.
📝 Key Responsibilities
Design & Trade Production: Produce structural elements or components according to client specifications and trade standards; conduct rigorous quality assurance on all produced items.
Maintenance & Technical Repairs: Inspect government facilities and machinery for technical defects; execute repairs in accordance with trade safety standards; test repaired systems/structures against operational requirements; perform scheduled preventive maintenance.
Administration & Reporting: Keep updated job registers and maintenance logs; compile inputs for technical reports; maintain equipment; supervise and mentor junior support personnel and apprentices.
Skills Development & Expertise: Maintain continuous individual development to stay current with modern trade technologies, tools, and regulatory procedures.
✅ Job Requirements
Grade 12 / Matric Certificate or equivalent technical qualification.
An appropriate Trade Test Certificate as recognized by SAQA in the relevant trade (Painting, Bricklaying, Plumbing, Welding, or Electrical).
A valid driver’s license (except for persons with disabilities).
Technical Competencies: Technical analysis knowledge, computer-aided technical applications, trade legal compliance, technical report writing, and process knowledge.
Generic Competencies: Problem-solving and analysis, decision-making, teamwork, creativity, self-management, customer focus, and planning and organizing.
