🎯 Purpose of the Role

The Artisan Production Grade A (Diesel Mechanic) carries out scheduled servicing, diagnostic troubleshooting, technical fault analysis, overhaul repairs, and maintenance on road-building earthmoving equipment, yellow plant, and departmental diesel vehicles at the Sibasa Mechanical Workshop.

📝 Key Responsibilities

  • Fleet Maintenance & Servicing: Receive job cards, inspect workspace safety, perform oil and filter changes (oil, fuel, air filters), examine filter debris for wear signs, inspect for oil/hydraulic leaks, and conduct post-service test drives.

  • Fault Diagnosis & Mechanical Repairs: Conduct pre-repair visual inspections, analyze failure root causes, state technical issues in writing, dismantle assemblies, replace/repair worn components, reassemble, clean, and test functionality.

  • Technical Quality Control & Inspection: Carry out detailed pre- and post-repair inspections on road plant equipment, complete formal technical inspection sheets, and log fault findings.

  • Workshop Administration: Accurately complete job cards upon repair completion, provide inputs for technical fault reports, maintain plant repair registers, and adhere to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards.

✅ Job Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric Certificate or relevant technical certificate.

  • An appropriate Trade Test Certificate as a Diesel Mechanic as recognized by SAQA.

  • Practical post-qualification experience as a Diesel Mechanic will be an added advantage.

  • A valid driver’s license (except for applicants with disabilities).

  • Technical Competencies: Diagnostic fault analysis, technical report writing, knowledge of road maintenance plant/machinery, legal health and safety compliance, and workshop process skills.

  • Generic Competencies: Problem-solving and analysis, decision-making, teamwork, creativity, customer focus, planning and organizing, and computer skills.
