🎯 Purpose of the Role

The Works Inspector conducts technical site inspections for minor new construction and building maintenance projects across Mopani District, ensuring contractor compliance with building codes, quality control standards, occupational health and safety regulations, and project specifications.

📝 Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Inspection & Quality Assurance: Inspect minor new building projects and structural maintenance sites; verify compliance with national building regulations; conduct technical assessments to enforce strict quality control standards.

  • Cost Estimation & Project Documentation: Interpret building plans/sketches, draft job specifications, compile bill of quantities and cost estimates, prepare quotation documents, and participate in bid adjudication processes.

  • Contractor Management & Oversight: Supervise site works, advise contractors on technical and statutory building standards, process payment certificates, compile variation orders, evaluate deadline extension requests, and maintain contract records.

  • Reporting & Electronic Data Management: Maintain electronic progress registers for ongoing and completed projects, draft detailed technical status reports, and capture required Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) reporting data.

✅ Job Requirements

  • A National Diploma (T/N/S stream) or equivalent, OR an N3 Certificate with a recognized Trade Test in a building trade environment, OR Registration as an Engineering Technician.

  • A valid driver’s license (except for persons with disabilities).

  • Technical Competencies: Project management, technical analysis, computer literacy, technical report writing, plan/drawing interpretation, and structural construction knowledge.

  • Generic Competencies: Problem-solving and analysis, decision-making, teamwork, customer responsiveness, planning and organizing, accuracy, and clear communication skills.
