🎯 Purpose of the Role
The Assistant Director: Financial Accounting is responsible for driving sound financial governance, ensuring compliance with statutory accounting standards, facilitating timely reporting, and supervising financial operations across the department.
📝 Key Responsibilities
Ensure full adherence to the PFMA, Treasury Regulations, Financial Manual, and departmental policies.
Prepare accurate Monthly, Interim, and Annual Financial Statements on time.
Ensure 100% timely payment of suppliers and service providers each month across the financial year.
Authorize the payment of transfers and subsidies processed on the accounting system.
Clear suspense accounts and maintain inter-departmental receivables/payables monthly.
Assist in compiling Section 40 reports, monthly compliance reports to Treasury, and management reports.
Attend to internal and external audit queries, driving corrective measures where required.
Provide administrative support, guidance, and accounting best practices to line managers and business units.
Supervise, manage, and continuously develop subordinates, overseeing performance management, discipline, and conduct.
✅ Job Requirements
Matric plus a Bachelor’s Degree in Financial Management / Accounting / Public Finance / Cost and Management Accounting (NQF Level 7) recognized by SAQA.
Minimum of 3 years’ relevant supervisory experience.
A valid driver’s license.
Knowledge: Departmental policies and procedures, financial reporting protocols, and government priorities.
Skills: Planning, organizing, report writing, negotiation, decision-making, and strong communication abilities.
Advantageous: Exposure to and practical training in Financial Accounting.
