Masakh’iSizwe Bursary 2024
For the 2024 academic year, students are invited to apply for the Masakh’iSizwe Bursary Programme.
The Western Cape will award bursaries to study at higher education institutions within the Transport, Engineering, and Built Environment industries, specifically in the following fields:
Property Studies
Transport Economics/Studies
Town/City and Regional Planning
Quantity Surveying
Architecture
Construction Management
Civil Engineering
Geomatics
Electrical Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Bursary Coverage
As part of the bursary, students will receive prescribed study materials, textbooks, tuition fees, food, lodging and transportation. In addition, the bursary offers students the following benefits: programs to support students, learning opportunities (internships) and employment opportunities after graduation.
It is possible for bursary recipients to be required to attend the following activities during the course of their studies: events and meetings, attend workshops, engage in academic experiential learning, and participate in outreach programs.
Students need to ‘work back’ the bursary upon graduation. One year of working in the public sector is required for each year of receiving a bursary.
Bursary recipients who work for the Department of Transportation and Public Works are required to complete a Professional Development Training Programme to become professionally registered.
Candidates shortlisted for an interview will be contacted. Your application will be considered unsuccessful if you do not hear back by the end of February 2024.
Eligibility Criteria For The Bursary
Prior to applying, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements. You will not be considered for admission if you fail to meet all the requirements:
Matriculation or completion of Matriculation are required
Citizenship of South Africa is required
In 2024, you must be enrolled full-time in one of the fields listed above, or intend to enroll full-time.
The University of Cape Town, the University of Stellenbosch or the Cape Peninsula University of Technology are all acceptable universities to study at or apply to.
Students from rural communities, financially disadvantaged students, female students, and students with disabilities will receive preference.

Before applying, applicants should read the following:
Documents Required
Along with your completed application form, please submit the following supporting documentation (failure to submit any of these documents will result in your application being dismissed):
Document of identification (certified copy)
Results of Matric, if you are currently enrolled in Matric (certified copy)
If completed, a Matric certificate (certified copy)
If you are currently in tertiary school, send a copy of your most recent academic results
Documentation of full academic standing (certified copy)
An application or proof of enrollment at one of the above-mentioned tertiary institutions
Overview of the academic year 2024
An estimate of the cost of studying in 2024
Providing proof of residential address (recent account statement or utility bill – no older than three months)
Document proving parentage, guardianship or marriage (certified copy)
Verification of parental income (latest payslips for employees, affidavit for unemployed, death certificate for deceased)
If there is an existing debt, please provide proof of it.
Please provide proof of any other financial aid you have received (if applicable)
Disability documentation (if disabled)

(If you have a criminal record) Police clearance certificate
Closing Date Of The Bursary
The last date of application is 31 August 2023.
Applications received after this date will not be considered. Please submit your application before this date to ensure consideration.
