Carpenter

Purpose:

To perform general carpentry tasks within the Business Unit.

Minimum Requirements

  • Qualifications:

    • Grade 12/Standard 10 Technical (Essential/Minimum)

    • N2 Relevant Trade Subjects (Essential/Minimum)

    • Trade: Artisan(Relevant) MQA/QCTO Accred (Essential/Minimum)

  • Experience:

    • 2-3 years Relevant job-specific experience (Essential/Minimum) Operational

  • Requirements:

    • Psychometric Assessment (Essential/Minimum)

    • Certificate of Fitness (Essential/Minimum)

    • Competence: Core MQA Modules Assessments (Essential/Minimum)

    • Competence: On the Job MQA Modules Asses (Essential/Minimum)

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Construction and Routine Work Management

    • Maintain all structures by utilising appropriate and specified equipment and tools

    • Perform varied installations and maintenance throughout the area according to job card

    • Maintain stock levels of spares and materials

  • Equipment Control and Maintenance

    • Manufacture equipment/furniture according to existing standards and requisition requirements

    • Maintain all relevant infrastructure within the region

    • Adhere to all customer requirements to ensure customer satisfaction

    • Report any problems encountered

  • Inspection and Control

    • Inspect all tools, equipment and instruments prior to use

    • Report defects immediately

  • Material/Resource Planning and Control

    • Adhere to planned maintenance schedules

    • Use available resources optimally

    • Assume responsibility for quality of maintenance and new installations in functional area.

  • Routine Work Management

    • Fill in job cards daily and submit to foreman

    • Transfer knowledge and give guidance to Artisan Aides/trainees to improve their skills

  • Safe and Healthy Work Environment

    • Adhere to all health and safety practices and promote good housekeeping on an ongoing basis

    • Address all unsafe practices, potential hazardous situations and rectify/report to superior

    • Comply with Safety Health Environment and Community (SHEC) and technical requirements

    • Wear applicable Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) at all times.

  • Technical Support

    • Execute work on roof sheeting, partitioned building and modifications

    • Assist Foreman by conducting inspections on all relevant infrastructure within the Region
