🎯 Purpose of the Role
The Artisan Foreman (Grade A) supervises building maintenance teams, plans trade workflows, executes repairs, conducts technical quality assurance, and manages human and material resources across designated district building maintenance centers.
📝 Key Responsibilities
Design & Technical Production: Supervise and produce technical designs per client specifications; manufacture or assemble structural items according to trade standards and conduct quality assurance.
Maintenance & Facilities Repair: Inspect government facilities and equipment for technical faults; perform, supervise, and test repairs across plumbing, bricklaying, carpentry, or general building trades; execute scheduled preventive maintenance.
Administrative Governance & Procurement: Maintain fault-repair registers, request quotations, order maintenance materials, produce operational reports, and enforce strict Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations.
Resource & Staff Supervision: Supervise, schedule, and mentor artisan staff and general workers; manage resource allocation and operational work plans.
Continuous Development: Stay updated on modern building techniques, materials, and safety tools through literature studies and technical training.
✅ Job Requirements
Grade 12 / Matric Certificate.
An appropriate Trade Test Certificate as recognized by SAQA in Plumbing, Bricklaying, Carpentry, or relevant building trade.
Minimum of five (5) years’ post-qualification experience as a qualified Artisan.
A valid driver’s license (except for persons with disabilities).
Technical Competencies: Team leadership, technical analysis, computer-aided technical applications, trade safety compliance, technical report writing, and process knowledge.
Generic Competencies: Problem-solving and analysis, decision-making, financial awareness, customer focus, planning and organizing, and conflict management.
