🎯 Purpose of the Role
The Engineering Technician: OHS provides technical engineering support, promotes Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) statutory compliance, assists with engineering designs, and oversees safety protocols across public school infrastructure delivery projects.
📝 Key Responsibilities
Technical Services & OHS Enforcement: Assist Engineers and Technologists in field and office activities; enforce safety and OHS compliance in line with statutory and regulatory requirements on project sites.
Design & Technical Evaluation: Produce technical designs and specifications; evaluate existing technical manuals, standard drawings, and engineering procedures to integrate new safety technologies.
Administrative & Asset Governance: Provide inputs into the operational planning and budgeting process, compile technical reports, maintain project databases, and supervise technical personnel and departmental assets.
Research & Continuous Professional Development: Conduct literature studies and technical research on emerging engineering safety technologies; maintain active professional development and liaise with professional engineering bodies.
✅ Job Requirements
Grade 12 / Matric Certificate.
An NQF Level 06 qualification as recognized by SAQA in Engineering.
Minimum of three (3) years’ post-qualification experience in a technical/engineering environment.
Professional Registration: Mandatory active registration as a Professional Engineering Technician with ECSA.
A valid driver’s license (except for persons with disabilities).
Technical Competencies: OHS statutory compliance, project management, technical design and analysis, computer-aided engineering applications (CAD), technical report writing, and technical consulting.
Generic Competencies: Problem-solving, decision-making, teamwork, analytical skills, financial awareness, planning and organizing, and people management.
