🎯 Purpose of the Role

The Chief Works Inspector (Electrical) oversees electrical inspection services, plans unscheduled maintenance, drafts technical specifications, manages contractor performance, and supervises lower-level Works Inspectors within the Waterberg District (Modimolle Cost Centre).

📝 Key Responsibilities

• Inspection & Technical Assessment: Inspect new electrical installations and ongoing maintenance work on public buildings to enforce compliance with safety legislation, technical standards, and quality control.

• Specifications & Cost Estimates: Investigate technical issues, compile Bills of Quantities (BoQ), draft quotation/bid documents, and formulate cost estimates for minor new works and electrical repairs.

• Contract Administration & Payment Certification: Supervise contractors on site, adjudicate bids, verify invoices against completed milestones, certify progress payments, and manage variation orders or time extensions.

• Records & Reporting Management: Implement and maintain electronic record-keeping systems to monitor outstanding, ongoing, and finalized electrical work, producing regular progress reports.

• Staff Supervision & Capacity Development: Supervise Works Inspectors, oversee performance evaluations (PMDS), identify skills gaps, deliver technical guidance, and allocate workflow efficiently.

• EPWP & Safety Compliance: Gather and submit EPWP data, advise contractors on legal/OHS standards, and ensure the optimal utilization of equipment, stores, and maintenance funds.

✅ Job Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric Certificate.

• An NQF Level 6 qualification (T/N/S streams) as recognized by SAQA in Electrical Engineering OR N3 Certificate plus a Trade Test Certificate in Electrical OR professional registration as an Electrical Engineering Technician.

• Minimum of three (3) years’ relevant post-qualification experience in an electrical maintenance/installation environment.

• A valid driver’s license (except for persons with disabilities).

• Technical Competencies: Project management, technical analysis, computer literacy, technical report writing, reading/interpreting electrical plans and single-line diagrams.

• Generic Competencies: Problem-solving and analysis, decision-making, financial management, customer responsiveness, planning and organizing, team leadership, and conflict resolution.
