🎯 Purpose of the Role

The Road Work Superintendent oversees routine, preventive, and emergency road maintenance across surfaced and gravel roads within assigned cost centres (Lebowakgomo / Mothapo), supervising technical teams, managing contractor output, and developing asset maintenance schedules.

📝 Key Responsibilities

• Road Network Monitoring & Maintenance: Oversee surfaced road maintenance (resurfacing intervals, culvert/bridge replacement, line painting, sign replacements) as well as grading and resurfacing loose-top gravel roads.

• Workplace Scheduling & Planning: Develop operational maintenance schedules for road assets, plant, and machinery; prepare weekly and monthly site execution programs.

• Contractor & Project Quality Control: Manage contracted services, perform project management oversight, conduct final project inspections for capital works, and monitor work quality from maintenance crews.

• Technical Support & Claims Handling: Provide technical analysis and advice regarding road infrastructure claims lodged against the department.

• People & Resource Development: Lead, manage, and build technical capacity within field staff and artisan teams.

✅ Job Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric Certificate.

• An NQF Level 6 qualification as recognized by SAQA in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.

• Minimum of six (6) years’ hands-on experience in road maintenance and construction.

• A valid driver’s license (except for persons with disabilities).

• Technical Competencies: Artisan-related activities, knowledge of Roads Maintenance Manuals, Public Service Acts and Treasury Regulations, policy analysis, strategic capability, and computer skills.

• Generic Competencies: Leadership, financial management, decision-making, planning and organizing, conflict resolution, and customer focus.
