🎯 Purpose of the Role
The Civil/Structural Engineer provides professional engineering design, technical evaluation, tender documentation, project oversight, and skill development within the Health and Education Infrastructure Delivery component at the Head Office in Polokwane.
📝 Key Responsibilities
Design & Analysis: Plan, design, operate, and maintain civil/structural engineering projects. Develop cost-effective engineering solutions and review technical manuals, standard drawings, and tender specifications.
Technical Evaluation: Evaluate civil engineering designs prepared by external consultants to ensure compliance with sound engineering principles, departmental norms, and safety standards.
Human Capital Development: Train, mentor, and supervise candidate engineers, technologists, and technicians to promote skills transfer, technical growth, and adherence to codes of practice.
Office & Financial Administration: Prepare input for budget planning, manage resource utilization, monitor cash flows, report on service delivery, and enforce procurement regulations.
Research & Development: Engage in Continuous Professional Development (CPD), conduct research into emerging civil engineering technologies, and liaise with professional engineering bodies.
✅ Job Requirements
Grade 12 / Matric Certificate.
An NQF Level 07 qualification as recognized by SAQA in Civil Engineering (B.Eng or B.Sc in Civil Engineering).
Minimum of three (3) years’ post-qualification experience in Civil Engineering.
Professional Registration: Mandatory active registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
A valid driver’s license (except for persons with disabilities).
Technical Competencies: Computer-aided engineering applications (CAD/FEA software), project management, technical report writing, engineering design evaluation, and legal compliance.
Generic Competencies: Decision-making, team leadership, financial management under PFMA, analytical thinking, conflict management, and problem-solving skills.
