🎯 Purpose of the Role
The Deputy Director-General: Provincial Communication Services provides executive leadership and strategic direction for all provincial communication, media relations, branding, stakeholder engagement, and citizen participation programs across Gauteng provincial departments and entities.
📝 Key Responsibilities
Provide executive direction for Provincial Communication Services in alignment with provincial priorities, EXCO directives, and Cabinet Lekgotla programs.
Lead the formulation, rollout, and monitoring of the Provincial Communication Policy Strategy.
Serve as the official provincial spokesperson when delegated, managing high-level media liaison, press briefings, and crisis communication.
Oversee the implementation of an integrated provincial branding, marketing, and reputation management strategy.
Coordinate communication across all Gauteng provincial departments and public entities to maintain messaging uniformity and strategic coherence.
Provide strategic advisory support on communication matters directly to the Premier, Director-General, and Provincial Executive.
Direct the implementation and institutionalization of the Ntirhisano Programme, service delivery war rooms, and community outreach feedback mechanisms.
Oversee the branch budget in compliance with the PFMA, ensuring strong internal controls, governance, and resource optimization.
✅ Job Requirements
An NQF Level 8 qualification in Communications, Public Relations, Media Studies, Public Administration, Journalism, or a related field recognized by SAQA. (A Master's degree / NQF Level 9 in a related field is an added advantage).
Minimum of 8 years’ experience at a Senior Managerial Level (SMS) with a strong track record in strategic communication, media relations, public participation, marketing, and government communication systems.
Pre-Entry Requirement: Successful completion of the NSG Nyukela Pre-Entry Programme (Certificate for Entry into the SMS) prior to appointment.
Competencies: Executive leadership, integrated communication policy formulation, crisis management, intergovernmental collaboration, PFMA compliance, and GCIS framework expertise.

Applicants must complete the SMS Pre-Entry Programme offered by the National School of Government (www.thensg.gov.za). Shortlisted candidates will undergo two pre-entry assessments (a practical technical exercise and an integrity assessment) followed by psychometric testing.
